Kaş - Turkey’s best-kept secret PDF Print E-mail

Undisputedly one of the prettiest harbour towns on Turkey’s Turquoise Coast, Kaş is a popular choice for overseas buyers. Its outstanding climate, wide range of properties and good holiday rental prospects, together with excellent shops and restaurants, set in charming cobbled streets around a picturesque harbour, all serve to make it the perfect choice for your home in Turkey.

Served by two airports, Dalaman - approximately two hours - and Antalya, a little over two and a half hours, most major European cities are easily accessible by both scheduled and charter flights. The UK is particularly well served, with flights available throughout the year from several charter companies, as well as scheduled flights with EasyJet, Onur Air, Cyprus Turkish Airlines and British Airways. Domestic flights with Turkish Airlines and Atlasjet provide frequent daily connections with most of the world’s major airlines via Istanbul.

Protected by the Taurus mountain range, Kaş has its own enviable micro-climate. It enjoys particularly long warm summers, allowing the summer holiday season to extend from Easter to mid-November. Even the winters are mild and the days are mostly warm and sunny, though short-lived bouts of heavy rain and the spring meltwater from the mountains keep the water supplies topped up and the vegetation green.

Kaş is the administration centre for the area, taking in one or two other small towns and many farming communities, villages and hamlets in the surrounding hills. This is reflected in the excellent choice of shops, restaurants, banks and other municipal services. It also means that, unlike many Turkish coastal towns, Kaş remains busy and open for business all year round, though some tourist-orientated businesses do of course close down during the winter months.

Known to date back at least to Lycian times, approximately 2,500 BC, Kaş and the surrounding countryside has an absolute wealth of history, much of which is still apparent today, with ancient cities from Lycian and Byzantian eras lying cheek-by-jowl with castles of the Knights of St John. Just add beautiful beaches, fabulous walks, fantastic food and friendly people, and you can see why Kaş is Turkey’s best-kept secret.
